Campus Master Plan Update

May 6, 2020

As you are aware, we are embarking upon a new Master Plan project with our long-standing design partner, Gensler. The Master Plan is an effort to realize the Strategic Plan in space. It is an opportunity to build on our momentum that began with the success of the Student Center, with the goal of transforming how we engage with each other, our campus, our neighborhood, and our city.

A Master Plan being our 10-year outlook means that much of it will come to fruition over time, but you’ll still be able to experience it along the way through stories of our legacy, our sense of ownership & identity, our pride in our brand, and an understanding of our campus vision.

Launch of the Campus Master Plan

January 30, 2020

Just as our students and faculty shape what’s next every day, our institution needs to keep looking ahead and meet the demands of fast-moving fields of study and work.

Our new Student Center is just a glimpse of how our physical campus can help us further foster interdisciplinary learning, making and thinking.

This winter, Columbia is beginning a master plan process in collaboration with Gensler, the architecture, design, planning and consulting firm with which we collaborated on the Student Center.

This master plan process is designed to collect input from the Columbia community to inform decisions on the part of President Kim and the Board of Trustees about where future investment in facilities and technology can be most impactful in advancing our mission.

Your insights are crucial during this first phase research and throughout the planning process. In January, we will begin collecting information and feedback through surveys, workshops and interviews, which will focus on the campus experience, programs and facilities.

This interactive process will supplement a broader review of our facilities and technology, and emerging trends across higher education and various fields for which we prepare students.

Stay tuned for invitations to connect and participate in the conversations and information-gathering activities Gensler will organize on campus.
